Tribulus Terrestris
Tribulus terrestris is a weedy, flowering plant indigenous to southern Europe, south Asia, Australia and Africa. The name comes from latin for (a spiky weapon), as the appearance of the "caltrop" / tribulus plant is very "horny" at the fruit part. This plant has aphrodisiac properties because it raises testosterone levels slightly, which in turn can increase the sex drive in both men and women. Long used as an ayurvedic medicine, Tribulus extract is strong enough to increase testosterone levels, but gentle enough to keep them within the normal range - thus avoiding the many side-effects of steroid use, especially suppression of one's own testosterone production. The chemical in tribulus that causes the desired effects is protodioscin, which is very similar to DHEA, another natural aphrodisiac that works by increasing testosterone levels naturally.
