Oats recipes:
Being consumed for a long time in Scandinavia and Scotland, oats has become in the last decades a food appreciated in the rest of Europe as well and especially in North America. The main semi preparation are the oats flakes, even if some naturalists don’t even want to hear about them because for them count only the germinated grains, flour, pearl barley and maybe semolina too. Oats bread is quite hard to prepare being usually combined with integral wheat and barley flour. The three cereals combination is very healthy. Somewhat easier to prepare is the pearl barley, which can sometimes be consumed as such, or in combination with milk, honey, jam or syrup. Soaked, oats flakes can be eaten with milk, yogurt, different teas, honey, and jam, with onion or tomatoes, with sour cream or mayonnaise. Foods prepared out of oats flakes can be decorated with cucumbers, minced parsley or minced apples. One of the recipes is called “Tomatoes with oats flakes” and it prescribes the following ingredients: “6 spoons of oats flakes, one or two sliced tomatoes, finely minced parsley, finely minced onion, salt and mayonnaise or sour cream.” Soaked, the oats flakes are portioned into coups in a layer of about one inch in width. It is seasoned with salt according to taste, tomato slices are added and then onion and parsley are sprinkled. Over these mayonnaise or sour cream is poured. The ingredients are left for about one or two hours so that the ingredients mix and the flavors homogenize. Some specialists in natural diets add also a little minced garlic,
or minced garlic and tomato sauce. There can also be imagined a sweet
variant of this recipe, using apples instead of tomatoes, with a teaspoon
of honey and an addition of blackberry, gooseberry or barberry jam.
If we don’t have these jams it can also be used thinned prune,
apples or pears marmalade, grounded hazel nuts and a bit of cinnamon.
In conclusion, starting from the 6 spoons of oats flakes other natural
recipes can be composed, in a sour or even bitter variant. |
